Olympic medallist Sakshi Malik has questioned the manner of investigation of the POSCO case registered against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The WFI chief has been under multiple investigations after India’s prominent wrestlers including Malik, who alleged Singh of multiple cases of sexual assault towards female grapplers including a minor.
As per the allegations against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, seven female wrestlers, including one minor, had registered two FIRs out of which one was registered under the POSCO act. But in days after the FIR, the complaint by the minor was withdrawn, leading to suspicion of threats to her family.
“In the POCSO case, if Brij Bhushan was arrested when the minor’s statement was (first) recorded before a magistrate, then the minor would not have withdrawn the complaint," Malik opined. “And not only that. Other girls would have also come forward and complained. There was pressure and threats is what I have heard. The court will have to decide what to do,” the 30-year-old added.
Further talking about the issue, Sakshi Malik expressed that her legal team is working on their behalf and are closely analysing the chargesheet filed before taking action. “We will consult our legal team and study the contents of the charge sheet. After that, we will take a final decision on the future course of action," Malik explained.
“If our legal team says it is a chargesheet that is strong and the case against Brij Bhushan can be fought in court, then there is hope for justice. Only if Brij Bhushan is arrested after the court hearings will women wrestlers who have been sexually harassed receive justice,” she further expressed.
