American Running back Saquan Barkley has reportedly signed a one-year deal worth up to $11 million with the New York Giants. Barkley will also get a signing bonus of $2 million amidst his failed negotiations with the New York-based franchise on signing a long-term contract. This deal emerged as a surprise for many but the deal is considered an option for Barkley to avoid losing money and getting crucial playing time after his return from injury.

The development was first reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, who expressed surprise at the agreement as Barkley seemed adamant about getting the deal of his choice. Barkley wasn’t the only running back with this problem, as stars like Nick Chubb, Alvin Kamara and more were seen complaining about situations with their teams.

Ian Rapoport tweeted, “Surprise! 🚨 🚨 🚨  The #Giants and star RB Saquon Barkley agreed to terms on a new 1-year deal worth up to $11M, sources say, as Barkley gives himself a chance to beat the franchise tag. He gets a $2M signing bonus. Bottom line: Barkley is coming in & will be at training camp.”

Talking about his "leverage" while negotiating with the New York Giants on The Money Matters" podcast, Saquan Barkley expressed, "My leverage is I could say, 'F--- you' to the Giants, I could say, 'F--- you to my teammates. And be like, 'You want me to show you my worth? You want me to show you how valuable I am to the team? I won't show up. I won't play a down.' And that's a play I could use.”

"Anybody [who] knows me, knows that's not something I want to do. Is it something that's crossed my mind? I never thought I would ever do that, but now I'm at a point where I'm like, 'Jesus, I might have to take it to this level.' Am I prepared to take it to this level? I don't know," he further added.
