Former India wicketkeeper batter Parthiv Patel made a huge statement about Dinesh Karthik’s selection in the T20 World Cup 2024. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru wicketkeeper-batter has been in excellent form throughout the first half of the IPL 2024 season with the bat. He has delivered some of the finest performances for an underperforming RCB in the 17th season. The 38-year-old has hammered some big innings and has garnered attention with his form.

The 38-year-old has amassed a total of 251 runs throughout the season on seven innings. Not only this, but he holds a better average than star batter and former RCB skipper Virat Kohli. Karthik’s form has been commendable in an otherwise forgettable campaign so far for RCB. The veteran wicketkeeper-batter has thrown himself into the selection consideration for a finisher’s role in India’s lower-middle order for the 2024 T20 World Cup.

However, former India wicketkeeper batter Parthiv Patel opined that selecting Karthik in India’s squad for the upcoming marquee tournament will be a huge step backward. Patel, who is a part of JioCinema’s commentary panel for the IPL 2024 said during the game between KKR and RCB, “Agar Dinesh Karthik ko WT20 me select kiya to wo bahut hi bada backward step hoga.”

It would be the greatest feeling for me to represent India: Dinesh Karthik

Bengaluru batter expressed his desire to represent India in the upcoming tournament in the USA and West Indies and said that it would be his honour. On the eve of the game against KKR, Karthik told Cricbuzz, “At this stage in my life, it would be the greatest feeling for me to represent India [at the T20 World Cup]. I'm very, very keen to do so. There is nothing bigger in my life other than representing India in this T20 World Cup.”

He added, "I also feel there are three very, very stable, honest people who are at their helm to decide what should be the best Indian team for the World Cup. Rahul Dravid, Rohit Sharma, and Ajit Agarkar. And I'm completely with them. I respect any decision that they take. But all I can say is I'm 100% ready. And you know I'll do everything I can to be on that flight to the World Cup.”
