Pakistan star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi has made a comeback in his national side's limited-over sides. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the teams for the upcoming white-ball series against the West Indies. The Men in Green will travel to the Caribbean Islands for the six limited-over matches from July 28 to August 12, 2025. Pakistan, under Salman Ali Agha’s captaincy, registered a new low after getting hammered by Bangladesh by 2-1 in a three-match T20I series. It was the T20 World Cup champions’ first series defeat to the Bangla side in cricket’s shortest format.
Following the humiliating series loss, PCB has named Shaheen in the T20I squad against the Caribbean side. Afridi played his last T20I game against New Zealand in Mount Maunganui on March 23, 2025. In the five-match T20I competition against the Kiwi side, the Green Army recorded a 4-1 loss and Afridi could pick up only two wickets in four contests at a hefty economy of 10.23. Noting the 25-year-old’s below-par show, PCB axed him from the T20I squad for the Bangla tour. Apart from Shaheen, Haris Rauf and Hasan Ali have also earned the spots in the T20I side against the Windies team.
Shaheen Shah Afridi wins place in the ODI team as well
Following Pakistan’s horrendous Champions Trophy 2025 campaign, Shaheen Shah Afridi couldn’t make it to his national team’s squad against New Zealand for three ODIs. However, PCB has now relented in the speedster’s case as the board has also inducted him in the Green Army’s ODI team against West Indies.
In the Champions Trophy 2025, Afridi played two matches and took only two wickets. His economy was horrendous as he splurged runs at an economy of 7.88. Against India in Dubai, he grabbed a couple of scalps but gave away 74 runs in eight overs. His performance received criticism from former Pakistan players.
