The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India’s squads for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka. While young players were named in the T20I squad, senior players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul returned for the ODI series. Meanwhile, veteran batter Shikhar Dhawan could not find a place in the squad despite scoring plenty of runs last season. Notably, Dhawan was India’s second-highest run-getter in ODIs in 2022.

Dhawan was also appointed as captain in quite a few bilateral series but with ODI World Cup 2023 just a few months away, the Indian cricket board has removed the batter from the scheme of things. Post this, Dhawan shared an emotional post on social media. The veteran batter shared a video of him training and wrote an interesting caption in Punjabi.

"Gal jeet haar di nhi hundi, Jigrey di hundi hai. Kam kari chalo baaki hamesha Rabb di raza ch raho (Baat haar jeet ki nhi hoti, jigrey ki hoti hai. Bas kaam krte jao or baaki sab bhagwan bharose chhor do)."
English Translation: It’s not about winning and losing, it’s about courage. Just keep hustling and leave rest to the almighty.
While Dhawan removed the post from his Instagram account, the snapshots of the post went viral on social media.

Meanwhile, fans also shared their views on this decision from BCCI. While many backed the rationale behind the decision, most fans looked disappointed at the unfair treatment of the star batter.
