Kolkata Knight Riders fans as well as Indian cricket teams fans can be delighted because Shreyas Iyer might feature in the new season of the Indian Premier League, IPL 2023. Iyer, who is down and out with a recurring back injury and was expected to undergo surgery, has reportedly decided against it as this will rule him out for six to seven months. The Indian batter has ignored the advice from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical team as well as the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Reports have emerged that Iyer wants to manage his injury without undergoing any surgery.

“While surgery seems imminent, which the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru is also understood to have recommended, the player wants to see if the injury can be managed without an operation at this stage. Both the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Indian team management are being kept in the loop,” a Cricbizz report claimed.

The report further claimed that Iyer is keener to be available for the ODI World Cup rather than IPL. "More than the IPL, Iyer, is believed to be keen to be part of India's campaign in the World Cup and surgery will rule him out for at least six-seven months with no guarantees that he can come back to competitive action by October-November when the World Cup will be held," claimed the report.
