Former Indian cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth shared his thoughts on the new Test captain of the Indian team after Rohit Sharma’s departure from the longest format of the game. With several rumours supporting Shubman Gill to be the next red-ball captain of India, Srikkanth said that the management should go with Jasprit Bumrah as their first choice for Test captaincy.
K Srikkanth also advised the team management to go with either KL Rahul or Rishabh Pant for Test captaincy if Jasprit Bumah remains unfit or unavailable. “He (Gill) is not even a certainty in Test cricket. The captaincy should be given to Jasprit Bumrah, and if he is not fit or available for any match, then KL Rahul or Rishabh Pant should lead India,” Srikkanth was quoted as saying by News18.
KL Rahul should bat at number 4 in Test cricket: K Srikkanth
Speaking further, Krisnamachari Srikkanth also shared his thoughts on which player could bat at number four for India after Virat Kohli’s retirement from the longest format. The former cricketer feels that KL Rahul should focus on his batting as he could be the strength of India’s batting order in Test in the upcoming years.
“Coming to the question about India’s next No. 4 in Test cricket, for me, KL Rahul should be given that position. He can be India’s lynchpin going forward in Test cricket. He has got the right technique, and the management should give him that fixed role," Srikkanth said.
“It’s a big question, a massive void. Virat was the torchbearer of Test cricket. He played the game with passion and aggression, and that was the greatness of Virat. Frankly, the selectors should have given him the captaincy, and he should have played for the next two to three years. But now we can only wish him well," he further added.
