With the gruelling five-match Test series against England ending in a 2-2 draw on Monday, August 4, the next major cricketing tournament for the Indian cricket team is the Men’s Asia Cup, set to be played from September 9 to 28 in the UAE. However, the Men in Blue will enter the tournament as defending champions, this year’s edition will be played in the T20 format.

While the five-match series saw several new faces emerge after veteran of the game, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin bid adieu to Test cricket, Shubman Gill stole the limelight. The red-ball captain finished as the highest run-getter, and also surpassed the record of most runs as captain, previously held by Sunil Gavaskar.

Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal to return in Indian T20I setup for Asia Cup: Reports

With a lot of eyes on this young lot, there are reports making rounds that Shubman Gill, along with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan are in contention for the Asia Cup 2025. Notably, Gill and Jaiswal haven’t featured in the last few T20I matches for the Indian cricket team.

"There is a five week break and with no cricket around, these three should walk into any T20 squad despite stupendous show by Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma. In 21 days in Asia Cup, if one plays till final, there are 6 T20 games and that's not much of a workload. But obviously with 17 member squads allowed for the Asia Cup, selectors will weigh options carefully," a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

While the national selectors are keeping all options as West Indies are set to tour India for a Test series, starting September 28. While the side will be led by Suryakumar Yadav, the T20I captain of Indian team, there are also talks around Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, both of whom played in the recently-concluded England Test series.
