Suryakumar Yadav is highly likely to make a comeback for Team India in the Asia Cup 2025. The continental tournament will be played in the T20 International (T20I) format from September 9 to 28, with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) hosting the event. India, who won the previous edition of the tournament played in the 50-over format in Sri Lanka, will be defending the title. Ahead of the massive competition, Suryakumar has kicked off his recovery process as he was seen sweating in the nets at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. In June he underwent his hernia surgery in June in Munich, Germany.
Suryakumar’s return is essential for India as he is the team’s T20I captain after Rohit Sharma hung his boots from the shortest form of the sport after guiding the side to the famous T20 World Cup 2024 win. Prior to the Asia Cup 2025, Suryakumar’s practice visuals will give relief to India supporters who were concerned how India will fare if he fails to show up in the marquee competition.
Suryakumar Yadav’s performance in IPL 2025
Suryakumar Yadav’s last outing came in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Serving Mumbai Indians (MI), he looked stellar with his bat. Amassing 717 runs with five fifties in 16 matches, he ended up as the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament, following Gujarat Titans’ (GT) Sai Sudharsan, who became the Orange Cap winner. He also became the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the competition.
Discussing his previous international appearance, it was against England in the T20I game played at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. In the five-match series against the English side, he looked ineffective as he could score only 28 runs in five matches at an average of 5.60. In the upcoming Asia Cup, he will be expected to make a comeback and lead the Men in Blue from the front.
