South Africa legend Herschelle Gibbs has taken a jibe at the International Cricket Council (ICC) following the intriguing fifth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy between England and India played at The Oval. Recently, there were reports in the media that cricket’s apex body is ready to give a nod to four-day Tests in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2027-29 cycle. In the final Test between England and India, both sides put up a tough competition until the last day. The visitors emerged victorious and succeeded in ending the series in a stalemate.
Noting the majestic success of the England-India series, ICC Chairman Jay Shah praised both the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the England Cricket Board (ECB) for the successful contest. Reposting Shah’s tweet, Gibbs taunted ICC for pondering to modify cricket’s longest format. The former Protea batter wrote, “You guys wanted test cricket to be 4 days.”
A breathtaking Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025
The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy witnessed the stellar level of Test cricket. In the opening contest, England’s bazball strategy got them a five-wicket victory in Leeds. The second game at Edgbaston witnessed the exceptional fight from the visitors as they hammered the home side by a colossal margin of 336 runs.
In the third game at the iconic Lord’s, England held their nerves and bagged a 22-run win in the interesting match. The fourth match in Manchester saw the dominance of England but on the last two days, India’s batting attack displayed composure and succeeded in securing a draw.
Like the Manchester Test, the English team looked dominating until the fourth day of the fifth game. On the final day, England required 35 runs with four wickets in hand but Mohammed Siraj stood tall and pulled off a six-run victory for his team by picking up three wickets.
