As the Asia Cup 2025 is fast approaching, the BCCI medical team is reportedly monitoring the health and fitness of the Indian players expected to be a part of it. Asia Cup, scheduled to begin on September 9, is the first multi-nation T20I tournament that Indian team will be part of since their T20 World Cup victory in 2024. Therefore, it is very important for the players who might be getting a chance to be at the top of their fitness levels, especially the captain. However, after his sports hernia surgery, India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav's involvement isn't certain,
A report from Cricbuzz claimed that ahead of the Asia Cup 2025, Suryakumar Yadav has checked into the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to undergo rehabilitation and fitness assessments following a recent sports hernia surgery. In the month of June, Suryakumar underwent surgery for a sports hernia in Munich, Germany.
Following the successful procedure, Suryakumar expressed his optimism about recovery via a social media post, stating, “Underwent surgery for a sports hernia in the lower right abdomen. Grateful to share that after a smooth surgery, I’m already on the road to recovery. Can’t wait to be back.”
Suryakumar was left out of West Zone 15-member Duleep Trophy squad
It is claimed by reports that due to his fitness assessments and rehabilitation at the NCA, Suryakumar Yadav was left out from the 15-member Duleep Trophy squad. Indian allrounder Shardul Thakur will lead the team which includes players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer, Sarfaraz Khan, Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, and Tushar Deshapande. The decision was reportedly taken to ensure that Suryakumar is in peak condition for the Asia Cup, where he is expected to lead the side.
The Asia Cup, scheduled from September 9 to 28 in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, is a critical tournament for India, who are placed in Group A alongside arch-rivals Pakistan, Oman, and the UAE. The high-octane India-Pakistan clash is set for September 14 in Dubai, adding to the stakes for Suryakumar’s timely recovery.
Since his last competitive appearance was the IPL 2025, where Suryakumar amassed 717 runs in 16 innings at a strike rate of 167.91, many former players and experts are reportedly optimistic about him being fit before the Asia Cup 2025.
