Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Monday, January 13 announced their 15-member preliminary squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025. The ICC tournament which will mark its return after 2017, will be held in Pakistan and the UAE from February 19 till March 9. Notably, South Africa have been placed in Group B alongside Afghanistan, Australia and England.

Coming back to Protea men’s squad, they will be led by Temba Bavuma, whereas the side will see the return of the pace duo Lungi Ngidi and Anrich Nortje. The upcoming marquee tournament will see Nortje return into the 50-over format for the first time since September 2023, following his recovery from a stress fracture in back.

Moreover, Lungi Ngidi makes his comeback since being out of action from October 2024 due to a groin injury. More or less, South Africa has stuck to their core group from the 2023 Men’s Cricket World Cup, retaining 10 of the 15 players for the upcoming ICC major event. However, the squad features some fresh faces in Tony de Zorzi, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs and Wiaan Mulder, all of whom are set to make their debut at a 50-over ICC event.

Speaking of the Proteas, they will begin their Champions Trophy campaign against Afghanistan on Friday, February 21 at the National Stadium in Karachi. The Temba Bavuma-led side will next face Australia on February 25, followed by a match against England on March 1 at the National Stadium in Karachi.
