The Spanish Football Federation has announced the Super Cup 2022-23 will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from January 11 to 15, 2023 . La Liga champions Real Madrid will square off against last season's Spanish Super Cup runners up Valencia in semifinals.
Last season, Real Madrid and Barcelona ended the La Liga campaign on the first two places respectively while Real Betis defeated Valencia in the finals to claim the Copa del Rey 2021-22 title.
The semifinals will be played during January 11-12 next year as Real Madrid will face Valencia while Real Betis are set to square off against Barcelona in other semi-final matchup. After defeating Barcelona in the Round of 16 and Real Madrid in the quarterfinals, Athletic Bilbao crashed out of the Copa del Rey 2021-22 after losing to Valencia in the semifinal.
The winners of both the semifinal matches will face each other in the Spanish Super Cup 2022-23 final at the King Fahd Stadium in Riyadh.
Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid are the two sides with the most Super Cup championships under their name as the Catalan giants won the title for a record 13 times followed by the Los Blancos, who won it 12 times.
Currently, defending champions Real Madrid are leading the La Liga points table and are unbeaten after winning 10 of 11 games. The champions are followed by Barcelona on the second place with a three-point difference from the toppers. Real Betis are placed on the fifth spot while Valencia are on the ninth place in the standings.
