The Sri Lankan team that went down against the fighting Indians in the second ODI have been sanctioned with 20% fine for their slow over-rate in the game played on July 20 in Colombo. Ranjan Madugalle, one of the referees from ICC Elite Panel, imposed the fine after the Lions were found one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration. To add to the pain of Dasun Shanaka’s side, Sri Lanka lost one point from their bag in the World Cup Super League standings.

In addition to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League condition of 1 point deduction, Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel states that players are fined 20 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.
