In a recent interview, apparently published with 7Cricket, the 36-year-old legendar batter Steve Smith, from New South Wales, Australia has indicated his desire to represent his country in the prestigious Olympics that will be held in the year 2028. Now what's interesting here is that the next installation of the Olympic games which will be held in Los Angeles in the year 2028 will take place in Los Angeles, in the beating heart of the United States. It would, actually, be the first time in 128 years that leading cricketing powers will be representing Cricket on the Olympics platform and that too, in its shortest, i.e., T20I format.
Steve Smith, a prominent name that sends fans into a state of smile and bowlers into a state of concern, will be 38 years old at that point in time. Having said that, while he may not be a spring chicken anymore, Smith will be around in probably Test match cricket only in the course of the future for his participation in the very next round of T20 world cup is not yet certain. As a matter of fact, the Australian team too, has moved on a great deal from the time of its usual legends with newer faces around to represent the cradle of excellence that is Australia.
Glenn Maxwell, Mitch Starc and Steve Smith himself will be quite old by then but an exception, you'd think could always be done as far as representing Australia in the eminent Olympics contest is concerned. Isn't it?
At the moment, Smith, who missed out in the T20I team that recently thrashed the West Indies in the T20 games held in the Caribbean, was a witness to the brilliant batting display his team put forth.
Australia achieved for the first time ever a five-match whitewash victory in the Caribbean region.
Smith, on his part, has scored 1094 runs in his T20I career from 67 games!
