Australia veteran Glenn Maxwell, who was seen in the opening role from the second to the fifth T20 Internationals (T20I) against the West Indies, has revealed that he won’t be handling the batting position for a long time. Maxwell did a fine job as an opener for the Aussies against the Caribbean side, amassing the scores of 12 (10), 20 (7), 47 (18), and 0 (1). In the absence of Travis Head and Matthew Short, Maxwell succeeded in impressing fans with his opening performances. Head was rested during the series while the backup opener Matthew Short picked up an injury.
Talking about his opening stint, Maxwell said that he is enjoying his time as a top-order batter but he is also ensured that he is in the position to fill Head’s shoes. "It's been great fun being at the top, but I'm sure I'm just warming Heady's seat until he comes back… I think the way we're probably going to set up our T20 side heading forward is you've got Travis up the top, you've got Mitch Marsh who is captaining us brilliantly at the moment, remarked Maxwell as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
Australia looked unprecedented during the West Indies tour
Australia looked remarkable throughout the West Indies tour. They outclassed the Caribbean in all departments of the game. In the three-match Test series, they whitewashed the hosts and carrying the Test form ahead, the Aussies cleansweeped the Windies side in the five-match T20I series as well.
In the final game played at Werner Park, the visitors chased down a target of 171 comfortably in just 17.3 overs and ended the T20I competition in their favour with a 5-0 margin. Australia’s next assignment is at home against South Africa. The Men in Yellow will host the Proteas for three Tests and three One-Day Internationals (ODI) from August 10 to 24.
