British tennis star Andy Murray continued his struggles with abdomen injury as he lost to Matteo Berrettini in the final of the BOSS Open in Stuttgart. The former number one took multiple medical timeouts over the course of the match as he lost 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.
Entering the summit clash, things were looking good for the 2016 Wimbledon champion as he had not dropped a set all week but finally conceded in his second service game. He then had four immediate break chances in the next game but Berrettini with his big serves consolidated his lead and then eventually took the first set with one of his trademark forehands.
"I felt like I was playing well enough to win," Murray
After the match, Murray addressed his injury and talked about how he was nearing a win but his health problems held him back. "I got some pain in my abdomen when I was serving. Not something I've had before. I'll need to get it checked when I get home,” he said.
"This is the most matches I've played in two weeks since probably 2016. That's a really long time. It's probably normal that I would feel some stuff in my body but I don't really know the severity of it. Hopefully, it's all right. I felt like I was playing well enough to win and I got myself in a really good position going into the third set so a frustrating end to what was a good week," he added.
"Hopefully, my body can hold up a little while longer," Murray
Murray also apologized to the fans and promised them that he has a good feeling about the future and hopes to build on the progress he made in the past few weeks. “Sorry I couldn’t get over the line today but there has been a lot of progress the last few weeks,” Andy Murray said. “I’m looking forward to what the future has to hold and feeling a lot better about my game. Hopefully, my body can hold up a little while longer, so I can keep playing matches like this.”
