The Sudirman Cup is a biennial mixed team badminton tournament taking place since 1989. The trophy bears the name of Dick Sudirman, a former badminton player from Indonesia and the man who established the PBSI, or Badminton Association of Indonesia. Sudirman Cup competitors compete for national pride, BWF World Ranking points, and national reputation and do not have cash reward. China is the most successful nation in Sudirman Cup history, winning the championship 12 times till now.
16 nations will be taking part in this year’s edition of the Sudirman Cup. The teams are divided into four groups of four teams each. This year the tournament will be held in Suzhou, China. China are also the defending champions as they triumphed over Japan in the finals of the 2021 edition. India are placed in Group C alongside Malaysia, Australia and the Chinese Taipei. The tournament will commence from May 14 and will go on for a week, till May 21.
