Marc Guiu is a Spanish international footballer who plays as a forward for Premier League club Chelsea. The 19-year-old signed for Chelsea in the summer transfer window of 2024 from the Spanish giants FC Barcelona. He signed for the Blues for a reported fee of €6m on a five-year contract, but featured for only 71 minutes in the club's Premier League appearances, all of which has come as a substitute. He has scored six goals in the nine Conference League appearances that he has made for the club.
The 19-year-old has reportedly agreed a deal to join the newly promoted Premier League club Sunderland on a loan deal. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Spanish international will be joining Sunderland on a straight loan from Chelsea with no option to buy him on a permanent deal. The entire salary of Guiu for the upcoming season is set to be covered by Sunderland. Ipswich Town were among clubs interested to sign Guiu but he will be moving to Sunderland for the upcoming season.
Marc Guiu set to boost attacking depth of Sunderland
This move signifies the intent of the Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris, who has made crucial signings in this transfer window to establish themselves in the Premier League. They recently completed the signing of Granit Xhaka from Bayer Leverkusen on a deal worth £13m plus an additional £4m in add-ons. They are going all in to prove themselves in the Premier League and stay in the top-tier for a while.
Chelsea have the Spanish international in their long term plans and want him to get more game time in this season to boost his experience which is why they agreed on a loan deal with Sunderland. Guiu’s awaited arrival is expected to add a fresh attacking dimension with his relentless energy and everlasting flair to provide depth up front for Sunderland.
