With a day ahead of the second Test between England and India at Edgbaston, Birmingham, a suspicious package was found near Centenary Square in Birmingham city centre. Notably, the Hyatt Hotel, where the Indian players are staying is also in thee same area as reported by Revsportz. As a result, the police cordoned off the area and evacuated the nearby buildings.

The players of the Indian team were also asked to stay inside as the investigation was going on. The Birmingham City Centre Police also stated that they were given an alert just before 3 PM (local time). Just after this, they started the investing the matter and asked the citizens to avoid going to that area.

“We’ve currently got a cordon in place around Centenary Square, Birmingham city centre, while we investigate a suspicious package. We were alerted just before 3pm, and a number of buildings have been evacuated as a precaution while it’s assessed. Please avoid the area,” the police wrote in a statement.

India to take on England in 2nd Test Edgbaston

Talking about the Indian team, Shubman Gill and his men will take on the hosts England in the second Test of a five-match series at Edgbaston in Birmingham from July 2 to 6. England are currently leading the series by 1-0 after winning the first Test by five wickets chasing a target of 371 runs on day five. Now, the visitors will be looking to make a comeback in the second Test and level the series by 1-1.

England have already announced their playing XI for the second Test. The hosts didn’t make any change in their lineup from the previous match and will play with the same XI.
