The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Friday announced their final 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup. With the tournament set to commence from October 16, 2022 in Australia, the side has drafted Soumya Sarkar and Shoriful Islam in the 15-member squad.

This move by the Bangladesh Cricket Board comes after the board parted ways with Sabbir Rahman and Mohammad Saiffudin owing to their poor run of form. The batter and the all-rounder were earlier named in the squad for the marquee event but have been replaced by Sarkar and Islam respectively for the T20 World Cup.

"Left-handed batsman Soumya Sarkar and left-arm paceman Shoriful Islam, originally on the standby list, have been selected in the World Cup squad. They have replaced batsman Sabbir Rahman and all-rounder Saifuddin who had been named earlier in the 15-man team which was announced on September 14", the BCB ’s statement read.

The duo of Rahman and Saifuddin will now head back to the home country as they were part of the squad for the tri-series, including Pakistan and New Zealand. Notably, Bangladesh failed to win any of the four matches they played in the tri-series, which saw Pakistan beat the hosts to lift the tri-series trophy.
