The venues for the upcoming global events of the International Cricket Council (ICC), for the years 2024 and 2025, are likely to change hands in the coming months, as per reports. By letting go of the hosting rights to the T20 World Cup 2024, West Indies and the United States of America may get a cricket tournament of similar worth in the coming years.

The biggest ICC global event in 2025, the Champions Trophy, currently scheduled to be hosted in Pakistan, could be given to the West Indies and the United States of America. For letting go of this tournament, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) may get compensated for the monetary loss. Also, England, Scotland, and Ireland have emerged as potential hosts for the T20 World Cup 2024.

As per News18, the source closely connected with these new developments in ICC, was quoted as saying about the matter, “The current infrastructure situation in the USA is not very encouraging. Even if they successfully host the upcoming Major League Cricket, hosting an event like the T20 World Cup is a different ball game altogether. Where will you host the matches when the venues aren’t ready? Also, a long tournament in the far west could be a loss-making proposition for the broadcasters in the sub-continent, where the returns are highest.”

It was also revealed that the discussion regarding the change of venues is in the verbal stage between the respective boards, ICC, and all the other stakeholders concerned. Furthermore, the broadcasters for these cricket tournaments as per the next ICC media rights deal, have agreed with the idea proposed to them.

Meanwhile, the reason for potentially giving the Champions Trophy 2025 to the West Indies and the United States of America is directly connected with lesser infrastructure and lesser financial risk to put up the relatively smaller ICC event.
