Defending champion Australia replaced England from the second spot of the Group 1 points table after comprehensively beating Ireland in the only clash of the day at The Gabba, Brisbane. Despite impressive batting from unbeaten Irish wicketkeeper batter Lorcan Tucker (71 off 48), Australians came better off their opponents as their bowlers rattled the Irish batting line-up by bundling out them for 137 in 18.1 overs.

Skipper Aaron Finch who struggled in the first few games of the tournament redeemed himself against Ireland as he played fine innings of 63-runs off 44 deliveries. While Marcus Stoinis continued his top form by smashing 35 in just 25 deliveries. 26-year-old Tim David too batted brilliantly as he scored quick 15-runs in ten deliveries. Barry McCarthy and Joshua Little produced noteworthy performances for Irish team as the bowlers picked three and two wickets, respectively.

In response, the majority of Ireland batters failed to perform but Lorcan Tucker batted brilliantly as he smashed 71 in just 48 deliveries and remained unbeaten till the end. Pat Cummins, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, and Adam Zampa picked two wickets each in the second innings, while Marcus Stoinis bagged a single wicket. With that comprehensive win, Australia has now added a second win under their belt in four games and have secure the second spot in the points table. Meanwhile, Ireland has slipped to the fourth position with just one win in four games.
