Veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik on Friday, March 22 hinted at his potential retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL). Karthik, who featured in the tournament opener between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), added crucial 38 runs during his unbeaten stay in the middle.
However, after helping his side post 173 runs on the board, Dinesh Karthik spoke of his experience to return to the field. Talking in the innings break at the Chepauk Stadium, Karthik said that it could be his last match at the iconic ground, hoping to comeback for the Playoffs once if they take place in Chennai.
“That’s great question. I genuinely wish it’s not, because a couple of matches of the Playoffs could be here. If I come back for that, that could be the last. Otherwise, I think it could be,” Dinesh Karthik said in the post-inning interaction.
Extremely challenging: Dinesh Karthik on juggling with commentary
The Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik also spoke of juggling his role as a commentator and cricketer. On being asked how has he prepared for the IPL 2024, DK replied stating that it has been “extremely challenging”.
“Doing a bit of commentary and practising cricket in between test matches and in between the time that you get has been a lot of hardwork. I am happy that game 1 has gone in a positive way for me personally and it feels good to score some runs,” Karthik said during the mid-inning break.
The Faf du Plessis-led will next take on Punjab Kings on March 25 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
