In the ongoing second Test between England and Team India at Edgbaston, the latter’s skipper Shubman Gill has looked calm as a batter. Following the loss of two wickets under the score of 100, Gill’s responsibility was to stand at the crease and support in-form opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was doming the hosts’ bowling unit. With the southpaw, he built a 66-run stand for the third wicket. Jaiswal lost his battle to England captain Ben Stokes but Gill stood at the crease and stabilised India’s innings. In the 57th over of the match, Gill smashed veteran Chris Woakes for a four and brought his fifty in 125 deliveries. It is his eighth Test fifty.
His stunning batting show has got reactions from netizen. Most are commending him for his effort. An X user named Aagneya wrote, “Got trolled for overseas fifty after Gabba and now he has one hundred and a fifty in two consecutive tests, the best thing about Shubman Gill is his control during batting, the Great Rahul Dravid must be proud of his favourite disciple.”
India lose momentum in the third session
In the third session of the match, England made a comeback in the match as they grabbed three quick wickets. After tea, England got rid of dangerous Rishabh Pant, who was looking in brilliant touch with his bat. The 27-year-old fell on his score of 27 while attacking Shoaib Bashir.
Nitish Kumar Reddy, who is playing his maiden game on English soil, was befuddled by Chris Woakes’ inswinger. The youngster went back to the dugout after scoring only one from his bat. As of writing, India are 218/5 in 63 overs with Gill (unbeaten 64 off 145) and veteran Ravindra Jadeja (unbeaten two off four) at the crease. Woakes has been the most impactful bowler for England as he has taken two wickets for the home side.
