Alexander Isak, the Sweden and Newcastle United striker, has been embroiled in a transfer saga in the ongoing summer transfer window after getting left out of the club’s pre-season tour of Asia. While Newcastle United stated that the decision to leave out the 25-year-old was due to a “minor” thigh issue, the situation is far from simple, especially with him training alone at his former club Real Sociedad in Spain.
It has been widely reported in the media that Newcastle United turned down a massive bid in excess of £110 million from Liverpool for Alexander Isak, valuing him at around £150 million. Amid all this, Eddie Howe, the manager of Newcastle United, commented on the developing situation, stating that the transfer saga surrounding Alexander Isak is not only “complex”, but also “far from ideal”.
The situation is far from ideal. It is quite complex: Eddie Howe
In a press conference, Eddie Howe talked at length about Alexander Isak’s transfer saga, and as per BBC Sport, he was quoted as saying, “I think from my situation, I am very much removed from everything that is happening back home. I was made aware there was a bid yesterday. That bid was turned down before I heard about it. There are people back in England dealing with the situation.”
“I really don't know what is going to happen next but, from our perspective, we still support Alex in every way and my wish is still that we see him in a Newcastle shirt again,” added the Newcastle United manager. It was just last season when the Magpies won their first major trophy in 70 years, clinching the League Cup after defeating Liverpool 2-1 in the final at Wembley Stadium in London.
Eddie Howe also revealed that he isn’t directly in contact with Alexander Isak, saying, “I know where he is through the media, so I think from that perspective it's difficult for me to go into any detail. The situation is far from ideal. It is quite complex. I think that is all I have got to say.”
