Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) beat Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 final, played at the Narendra Modi Stadium on June 3 and lifted the coveted trophy for the first time. After failing to be the best in IPL for 17 years, Challengers displayed diligence and perseverance to claim the title this year. Their veterans Virat Kohli, Josh Hazlewood, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar played magnificently and made vital contributions to the success. Kohli, who has been part of the side for the last 18 years, chipped in with 657 runs in 15 matches and emerged as the leading run-getter for his side in the tournament.
On the massive occasion, both RCB and Kohli are receiving congratulatory messages from prominent personalities. Veteran Bollywood stars Ajay Devgn and Suniel Shetty posted stories to extend their congratulatory messages to RCB and their oldest stalwart. Shetty took to X and posted a clip of Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma hugging each other. He also wrote, “18 years. Countless runs. Infinite belief. And… destiny finally wore Red. VIRAT KOHLI — the man who gave IPL its fiercest roar — finally lifts the trophy he’s chased with heart, fire and soul. This isn’t just a win. It’s a love story sealed with glory. @virat.kohli @anushkasharma.”
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka and Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor also lauded RCB’s triumph in the tournament. Renowned Tollywood star Allu Arjun took to X and wrote, “THE WAIT IS OVER . “Ee sala cup namde!” At last! We’ve been waiting for this day for 18 years. A big, big congratulations to RCB!”
Former cricketers also paid tributes to RCB’s sensational success
Former international cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, Suresh Raina, and Faf du Plessis also extended their wishes to RCB on their extraordinary victory. Former owner Vijay Mallya also congratulated the new IPL champions. Taking to X, Mallya wrote, “RCB are IPL Champions finally after 18 years. Superb campaign right through the 2025 tournament. A well balanced team Playing Bold with outstanding coaching and support staff. Many congratulations ! Ee sala cup namde !!.”
