Former England captain Michael Vaughan was seen mocking Team India in the promotional advertisement for the upcoming England versus India Test series to start from June 20. India’s Test experience has been bitter in England for the last 14 years. Back in 2011, the visitors recorded a 0-4 whitewash against the hosts while in 2014, the English side clinched a 3-1 victory against the MS Dhoni-led side. In 2018, things were expected to change under Virat Kohli’s leadership but the home team again looked dominating to clinch a 4-1 series win.
In the 2021-22 tour, India looked better and levelled the series by a 2-2 margin. This time, Shubman Gill’s team will chase a series win on English soil after 18 years. Ahead of the massive red-ball competition, Michael Vaughan featured in the broadcaster’s promotional ad and said, “In the last 100 years, India have lost 14 Test series here in England. This 20th of June, they arrive again to lose.”
England and India’s recent Test performances
Recently, England have looked disciplined in red-ball cricket. They won their maiden Test series on New Zealand soil after 16 years, beating the Black Caps by a 2-1 margin in December 2024. Last month, they also thrashed Zimbabwe by an innings and 45 runs in a four-day game. Talking about India, they were horrendous in their last couple of red-ball series.
In October 2024, they faced a humiliating 0-3 whitewash at home against New Zealand. Following that, they registered a 1-3 defeat at the hands of Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 held Down Under. After the couple of embarrassing losses, India have gone through a massive change as their legendary players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired from the longest form of the sport. Gill, who is handling the captaincy mantle, will look to lead the side confidently and beat Ben Stokes and his men.
