On Friday, June 6, 24-time Grand Slam winner, Novak Djokovic went down against his Italian opponent and World No. 1 Jannik Sinner in the semi-final of the Roland Garros 2025. The Serbian, who was eyeing for his record-breaking 25th Grand Gland Slam title, lost in straight sets 4-6, 5-7, 6-7 to bow out of the tournament at the Philippe Chatrier Court on Friday.
But as he made his way out of the court after going down against Jannik Sinner, Djokovic not only made an emotional goodbye, but also hinted on his retirement. It is to be noted that Djokovic is already 38 years old and might call off his time anytime seeing the age coming on him. In an emotional gesture, Djokovic was also seen touching the clay surface as a mark of respect, while hinting that he might not be coming back to the French Open again.

Speaking during the post-match press conference, the 38-year-old Serb said, “This could have been the last match ever I played here, so I don't know. That's why I was a bit more emotional even in the end.” “If this was the farewell match of the Roland Garros for me in my career, it was a wonderful one in terms of the atmosphere and what I got from the crowd,” he further added.
The Olympic gold medallist also added that although he wishes to play more here, but can’t speak of his future with 12 months ahead now. “Do I wish to play more? Yes, I do. But will I be able to play in 12 months' time here again? I don't know. That's all I can say for the moment,” he concluded.
With Djokovic bowing out of the tournament, the World No. 1, Jannik Sinner is set to face World No. 2, Carlos Alcaraz in the summit clash, set to take place on Sunday, June 8 at the Philippe Chatrier Court. Sinner will be taking on the defending champion, who advanced into the final after Lorenzo Musetti retired with a leg injury while trailing 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-0, 2-0.
