The ninth edition of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 is underway in Pakistan and the UAE. While all the teams are playing their matches in Pakistan after the defending champions secured the hosting rights, Team India, who denied to travel to Pakistan citing security concerns, are playing all their matches in Dubai.
But after the crucial match between India and Pakistan, which saw the hosts go down by six wickets, reports revealed that Pakistan has been put on high alert following an intelligence warning of a potential abduction plot targeting foreign guests during the course of the tournament. As per a report quoting CNN-News 18, alert has been issued against several terror outfits, including Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP), ISIS and other Balochistan-based groups.

Although, hosting the Champions trophy 2025 is a significant milestone for Pakistan’s cricketing landscape, it has been marred with several controversies ahead of the tournament. Moreover, the nation has now faced mounting questions about its ability to secure and manage high-profile international events, it has now also raised concerns of its foreign internationals being attacked in the new plot.
It is to be noted that incidents such as 2024 attack on Chinese engineers in Shangla and the 2009 attack on Sri Lanka cricket team in Lahore have time and again raised doubts on Pakistan’s security
Speaking of the defending champions, Mohammad Rizwan-led Pakistan have had a dismal outing in the ongoing tournament so far. After they lost their opening match, on Sunday, February 23, they also went down by six wickets in their do-or-die fixture against India at the DICS. With back-to-back losses, Pakistan are reeling at the bottom of the Group A standings and will have to rely on other team results to progress further in the competition.
