Cricket is undoubtedly one of the most popular sports played across the globe. Though there are numerous leagues that have come up in the sport lately, the grandeur, magnitude and significance of the ODI World Cup would never be replicated in any other tournament. The 2023 edition of the tournament is set to begin on October 5 in India.

While the England team would play the marquee tournament to defend their title, India wouldn’t wish to let go of the opportunity to win their third title. The 1983 and 2011 World Cup winners would end their 10-year-long ICC trophy drought by lifting the coveted trophy on their home soil. However, seeing how the Men in Blue have performed lately in the 50-over format, fans are expecting the ex-players to take a U-turn from their retirement and play in the upcoming tournament.

Here are the three ex-Indian cricketers who should take their retirement back and play for their side in the World Cup 2023.

1. Ambati Rayudu

Former India batter Ambati  Rayudu  called it quits on his IPL career after the conclusion of the IPL 2023. The 37-year-old is considered as one of the best middle-order batters. Despite the surety of him being a part of the ODI World Cup 2019 squad, the selectors dropped a bombshell by replacing him with Vijay Shankar in the tournament. Rayudu is considered as one of the best middle-order batters, and back then he was doing very well at the number 4 position. However, after being ignored by the selectors, a disappointed Rayudu announced his retirement from international cricket in the same year.

India is currently suffering from the number 4 dilemma, and if players like KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer cannot make it to the squad, the former India player should be considered for the same.
