Former Team India all-rounder Karsan Ghavri has slammed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for not confronting the England Cricket Board (ECB) on changing the name of the England-India Test series from the Pataudi Trophy to the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. In June 2025, ECB renamed the Test competition played between the two giant cricketing sides and the BCCI accepted the decision without any hesitation. The series got renamed on the two cricketing greats Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson.
Ghavri recently spoke to Vicky Lalwani on the latter’s YouTube channel and said the BCCI should’ve opposed the ECB's decision and said Tiger Pataudi’s name shouldn’t have been removed. "The BCCI should've put its foot down with the MCC and the ECB. Tiger's name shouldn't have been removed," said Ghavri.
Karsan Ghavri also slammed Sachin Tendulkar for allowing his name to be associated with the trophy
Karsan Ghavri also called out Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar for allowing the rechristening of the trophy on his name. "In the same context, when it came to Sachin Tendulkar, that this trophy would be changed, and this trophy would be named after you and Anderson, Sachin should've said no. Objection is different. In the first place, you should've put your foot down and should've said 'No, I don't want to use my name because Tiger Pataudi's name is already there. He's a legend of Indian cricket. If you want to give medals, use our name. Trophy's name should remain the same'. First of all, this question should've never been raised. You're degrading somebody of a great stature," added Ghavri.
The five-match Test series was played from June 20 to August 4, and it ended in a stalemate with 2-2 scoreline. Team India won the final Test played at The Oval by six runs, and they succeeded in securing a draw eventually. Shubman Gill became the player of the series for notching up the most runs in it. The India skipper scored 754 runs in 10 innings of five games.
