Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim spoke extensively about his first few months at the club in an exclusive interview, talking about how he feared for his team on a few occasions last season. In the 2024-25 campaign, more than half of which was played under Ruben Amorim after he replaced Erik ten Hag, the Red Devils ended up in 15th place in the Premier League, which was their lowest finish in the league since the 1989-90 campaign under the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson.

Notably, Ruben Amorim could only secure seven wins from 27 Premier League matches last season as manager of Manchester United after taking charge of the club from Erik ten Hag in November 2024. He also oversaw Manchester United’s tough 1-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Europa League 2024-25 final at the San Mames Stadium in Bilbao.

While talking to BBC Sport at Chicago Fire's training ground during Manchester United’s pre-season tour to the USA, Ruben Amorim touched on the team’s performance last season, stating that the pre-match was the most stressful thing for him. When asked about his feelings about meeting his family after constant losses, he said, “To tell you the truth, it's not how I returned to my house after the games, it was how I left to go to the games, because I felt that sometimes we will struggle.”

I want to stay at Manchester United for 20 years: Ruben Amorim

“All the struggles we had in games, I felt it before. That was the hardest part. To go to the games and know that we are not going to be competitive - I was really frustrated,” Ruben Amorim added. At the same time, after defeating Aston Villa in the final Premier League clash of the 2024-25 season at Old Trafford in Manchester, he told the thousands of fans that the “good days are coming”.

Ruben Amorim was also quoted as saying, “I want to stay at Manchester United for 20 years. I truly believe in that, it’s my goal. I know that last season I used all the credit, now we move forward.”
