After weightlifter Mirabai Chanu clinched a historic silver medal for India on Day 1, all eyes were on shooter Manu Bhaker who was the country's only major medal hope on Sunday. After an impressive start in the qualification round, things went slightly downhill for Bhaker as an equipment malfunction affected her form as she narrowly missed out a spot in the women's 10m air pistol finals. World number 1 Yashaswini Singh Deswal also had a disappointing outing as India started the day on the backfoot.

However, there was still a lot to celebrate for the Indian fans throughout the day. The female athletes produced some scintillating performances as PV Sindhu, Mary Kom and Manika Batra progressed to the next rounds in their respective events.

Shooting

Men's 10m Air Rifle Qualification - India's duo of Deepak Kumar (626.7 points/26th position) and Divyansh Singh Panwar (622.8 points/32nd position) failed to progress to the finals.

Women's 10m Air Pistol Qualification - India's duo of Manu Bhaker (575 points/12th position) and Yahaswini Deswal (574 points/13th position) got eliminated in the qualification round.

Men's Skeet Qualification (Day 1) - India's duo of Angad Singh Bajwa (73 points/11th position) and Mairaj Ahmad Khan (71 points/25th position) ended the first day of qualification outside the top 8.

Badminton

Women's Singles Group Play Stage - India's PV Sindhu defeated Israel's Ksenia Polikarpova by 21-7, 21-10 to begin her campaign in style.

Table Tennis

Women's Singles Round 2 - India's Manika Batra defeated Ukraine's Margaryta Pesotska by 4-3 in a marathon contest. After losing the first two games, the 26-year-old showed a lot of grit and determination to turnaround the match. Batra won by 4-11, 4-11, 11-7, 12-10, 8-11, 11-5, 11-7. She will now face Austria's Sofia Polcanova on July 26 in then next round.

Men's Singles Round 2 - India's Sathiyan Gnanasekaran lost to Hong Kong's Lam Siu Hang 3-4 to crash out of the event. The 28-year-old was in a commanding lead but had a horror show in the last three games as he lost 7-11, 11-7, 11-4, 11-5, 9-11, 10-12, 6-11.

Boxing

Men's Lightweight Round of 32 - India's Manish Kaushik lost to Great Britain's Luke McCormack 1-4 and crashed out of the event.

Women's Flyweight Round of 32 - India's Mary Kom beat Dominican Rebublic's Miguelina Hernandez by 4-1 margin and sealed a convincing victory. The 38-year-old will now be up against Colombia's Ingrit Valencia in the next round on July 29.

Hockey

Men's Hockey Pool A - India lost out to Australia by 1-7 in a thumping defeat on Sunday. India's young forward Dilpreet Singh scored the only goal for Men in Blue. India will now face Spain in a crucial encounter on July 27.

Swimming

Men's 100m backstroke - Srihari Natraj achieved a timing of 54.31 seconds and missed out on a place to proceed ahead in the event. He finished 5th in Heat 3 and 29th overall in the event.

Women's 100m backstroke - Maana Patel registered timing of 1:05:20 and failed to qualify for the finals. She finished 2nd in Heat 1 and 39th overall in the event.

Tennis

Women's Doubles Round 1 - India's Sania Mirza/Ankita Raina lost to Ukraine's L. Kichenok/N. Kichenok 6-0, 6-7 (0), 8-10 to get eliminated from the event.

Rowing

Men's Lightweight Double Sculls (Repechages) - India's duo of Arjun Lal and Arvind Singh finished 3rd in the Repechage race with a timing of 6:51:36 on Sunday. With this performance, they have qualified for the semi-finals of the event.

Sailing

Laser - India's Vishnu Saravanan finished at 14th place (out of 35)

Laser Radial - India's Nethra Kumanan finished at 33rd and 27th places (out of 44) in Race 1 and Race 2 respectively.
