Indian paddler Bhavina Patel made a stunning comeback after losing a game to stun World No 3 Zhang Miao of China 3-2 in the semifinals of Women’s Singles Class 4 at the Tokyo Paralympics. After losing the first game 7-11, the 34-year-old Bhavina came back strongly to beat Miao 7-11, 11-7, 11-4, 9-11, 11-8 to book a place in a historic final.

Bhavina had already assured India a medal and will now contest for gold. It will be India’s first medal in table tennis at the Paralympic Games. India’s 12 medals at the Paralympics so far have come from athletics, powerlifting, and swimming.

Bhavina will face China’s Zhou Ying in the final. Notably, the 34-year-old had lost to Ying in straight games in her first match in Tokyo Paralympics in the group stages.
