Manchester United are expected to bid farewell to two of their most experienced players, Tom Heaton and Jonny Evans, at the end of the 2024–25 season. According to multiple reports, both players are likely to leave Old Trafford when their contracts expire in June, with retirement looming for both veterans. Tom Heaton, who rejoined United in 2021, has served primarily as a backup goalkeeper. Now 38, Heaton has made only a handful of appearances since his return and has recently been sidelined due to injury.

Despite signing a one-year extension last July, it appears his time at the club will conclude this summer. His experience has been invaluable behind the scenes, especially for United's younger goalkeepers, and he was even called upon as a training goalkeeper for England during Euro 2024. However, ongoing fitness issues and limited playing opportunities have likely brought his professional playing career to a close.

The decision comes as part of Amorim's big transfer window overhaul

Jonny Evans, 37, returned to United in 2023 on a short-term deal that was later extended through the 2024–25 season. The Northern Irish defender initially impressed with composed performances and was even part of the squad that lifted the FA Cup last season. However, his involvement has diminished this campaign, with his last appearance dating back to December. With younger center-back options emerging and another contract unlikely, Evans is also expected to call time on his playing days.

Both Heaton and Evans came through United’s academy and represent the club’s tradition of nurturing talent from within. Their second stints at Old Trafford brought a mix of mentorship, professionalism, and squad depth at crucial moments. As United look to reshape the squad under a new era, the departures of Heaton and Evans signal the end of an experienced chapter, making way for a younger core.
