T20 cricket is, quite frankly, the most adored and popular format of the game. In these present times, where the game's template has been mixed with entertainment, few other things entertain as much as the shortest form of the game.
While it might be a touch skewed towards batting, it requires tremendous skill to score runs freely and often with a sense of acceleration that one doesn't always find that easily.
T20 cricket is also increasingly being described as the format that has saved the sport in this incessantly competitive age where attention spans are less and the need to be entertained by sport is tremendous. In these times, only a few men have managed to scale past the indomitable 10,000 run figure. The following are some of the Top T20 run scorers with excess of 10,000 runs to their name.
Top batters with 10,000-plus runs in T20s
Chris Gayle
Not called the Universe Boss for nothing, Chris Gayle was born in Jamaica. He became a great of the West Indies but a cult figure of the briefest format of the game; the man with no fewer than 14,562 runs in T20's from the onset of 2005 until 2022. His massive six hitting ability is a testimony to the ease and consistency with which he went big with the cricket bat in hand, earning at the end of the day, whale-size love from cricket fans and even contemporaries.
David Warner
The dogged left hander soared to worldwide attention after striking a triple century in Test cricket, circa 2019 versus Pakistan. But a regular fixture in T20 contests around the world, the daring Australian has to his name 13,281 runs from the time period of 2007 until 2025. A technically correct batter who can score runs in a big burst, Warner has handled some of the most noted bowlers from around the world and hardly ever broke a sweat. He has to his credit 8 centuries in the shortest format as well.
Alex Hales
Tall, lanky, attacking and a joy to watch; these are just some of the attributes of one of England Cricket's finest names to ever play T20 cricket. While it's a shame that Hales could not play that many T20I's for England, the Hillingdon-born lad still thudded nearly 13,700 runs from the onset of 2009 until 2025.
Virat Kohli
As of a few hours ago, Kohli went past 9,000 IPL runs for his RCB franchise, but his overall T20 run tally currently stands in excess of 13,400 runs, which is a remarkable achievement considering he doesn't always hit that many sixes or half a dozen with ferocious consistency or power.
Kieron Pollard
While England had their KP in Pietersen, Kieron Pollard, West Indies' own KP has become quite a T20 legend. An excellent return fielder of his own bowling and a giant who can be stationed anywhere in the outfield, Pollard's greatest claim to fame will always be his ability to club massive sixes, something he used to good effect in T20 cricket. With a world record of hitting six consecutive sixes in a single over, Pollard has scored from 2006 onwards until 2025, 13,537 runs.
He's been as much a Trinidadian as he became of Mumbai Indians, a colossal figure of the famed IPL team.
