On Sunday, June 8, Tottenham Hotspur confirmed that they have taken the option to extend the current contract of defender Ben Davies by a year, which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2026. The Welshman, who is 32 years of age, is currently the longest-serving player of Tottenham Hotspur senior team after he joined the club from Swansea City in 2014, and it was just last week when he was a part of their UEFA Europa League (UEL) title win.
During his illustrious career at Tottenham Hotspur, Ben Davies has played 358 matches, scoring nine goals, and he also got the opportunity to captain the club in 13 matches. The current contract of the Welshman with the North London club was set to expire this summer, but now, he will be taking the field for them at either left-back or centre-back position next season before potentially putting down the curtain on his time with them.
We are delighted to announce that we have exercised the option to extend Ben Davies' contract: Tottenham Hotspur
In their official statement on the club website, Tottenham Hotspur wrote on the contract extension of the 32-year-old, “We are delighted to announce that we have exercised the option to extend Ben Davies' contract, which will now run until the summer of 2026. Now our longest-serving senior player, Ben joined us from Swansea City in the summer of 2014 and has been a constant, reliable presence in our squad ever since.”
Earlier this week, Ben Davies captained Wales to a 3-0 win over Liechtenstein in the World Cup Qualifier match at the Cardiff City Stadium in Cardiff in the absence of regular captain Aaron Ramsey, who was injured ahead of the big contest. Wales are set to take on Belgium in the next World Cup Qualifier match at the King Baudouin Stadium on Monday, June 9 before a three-month wait for international football to return once again.
