In a major turn of events from the world of football, Tottenham Hotspur have sacked Ange Postecoglou from the managerial role of the club, effective immediately. The decision from the club hierarchy came “following a review of performances and after significant reflection” of the two years in charge of Ange Postecoglou, despite securing them their first major trophy in 17 years, winning the UEFA Europa League (UEL) last month.
The final of the UEL saw Tottenham Hotspur get the better of Manchester United 1-0 at the San Mames Stadium in Bilbao, to send the club fans all over the world into ecstasy under the management of Ange Postecoglou. But, at the same time, his team finished in 17th place in the Premier League, ahead of the three relegated clubs with just 38 points in 38 matches, including 22 defeats as well.

In their official statement about their manager’s sacking, Tottenham Hotspur wrote, “Following a review of performances and after significant reflection, the Club can announce that Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties.” During the UEL victory parade, the Australian had sent out a message to the club that season three under his management is going to be better than season two, just like his famous statement about winning trophies in season two, but he won’t be able to fulfill his prophecy this time around.
“We are extremely grateful to Ange for his commitment and contribution during his two years at the club. Ange will always be remembered as only the third manager in our history to deliver a European trophy, alongside legendary figures Bill Nicholson and Keith Burkinshaw. However, the Board has unanimously concluded that it is in the best interests of the Club for a change to take place,” Tottenham Hotspur hailed Postecoglou for his time at the club while making the tough call to part ways with him.
In his departing statement, Ange Postecoglou said, “I sincerely want to thank those who are the lifeblood of the club - the supporters. I know there were some difficult times but I always felt that they wanted me to succeed and that gave me all the motivation I needed to push on.”
