It is now reported that Tottenham Hotspurs will not sign German striker Timo Werner on a permanent deal at the end of the season. Werner is currently on loan at Spurs from RB Leipzig and his current deal is set to expire in June 2025. In light of his performances throughout the season, it is reportedly understood that Spurs will not want to continue working with him. Werner has had a rather forgettable season at Tottenham as he has a mere 4G/A in 27 games this season. Those numbers are really poor for a striker of Werner’s stature.

Timo Werner has almost been on a ‘walk around town’ as he has switched between three clubs in the last five years. The former RB Leipzig star initially moved to Chelsea in a big-money transfer where he failed to replicate his success of the German League and returned back to Leipzig in just two years. He was then signed on loan by Tottenham in January 2024 and has been at the club for almost one and a half seasons but has failed to deliver.

Tottenham will hope to finish struggling season with some European glory

Timo Werner’s struggle is almost synonymous with Spurs as they have struggled a lot in the current season. Even after a recent 3-1 victory against Southampton in the Premier League, they are placed 14th on the table and have little hope of finishing in a respectable position. They were also knocked out of the FA Cup in the fourth round by Aston Villa earlier. Their only glimpse of a title this season was when they reached the EFL Cup semi-final but were trashed 4-1 by Liverpool over two legs.

The only positive left for the current season for Spurs is their progress in the Europa League where they will be playing in the quarter-final against Eintracht Frankfurt in this week. In what will be a very tricky fixture for Tottenham, the probable future of their manager Ange Postecoglou hinges on the results he can produce in this competition.
