Afghanistan are highly likely to host Bangladesh for a three-match T20I series in October 2025. As per ESPNcricinfo, the tour dates are yet to be out but the series can be held before Bangladesh host West Indies for six white-ball contests. In July 2024, both teams were scheduled to play against each other in all formats comprising two Tests, three One-Day Internationals (ODI) and three T20Is. The schedule was initially revised to include only limited-over games, however, the series was scheduled to be played in Greater Noida, India, but it got adjourned due to weather issues and the Bangladesh side’s jam-packed schedule.

In November 2024, Afghanistan bagged a 2-1 win in the first leg of the three-match ODI tournament. If the upcoming three-match T20I competition takes place, the second leg of the tournament will be completed. ESPNcricinfo report also claimed that the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) are in talks to play a couple of Test matches next year. If the series is conducted, it will be the first meeting of both teams following their T20 World Cup 2024 clash, held in Kingstown.

Head-to-head T20I records between Afghanistan and Bangladesh

Both Asian sides have played against each other in 12 matches with Afghanistan having an upper hand with seven triumphs. Talking about the Bangladesh’s records, they have won five matches. Back in 2014, both teams faced each other for the first time in the T20 World Cup 2014 contest, played in Mirpur. The Bangla team enjoyed the home advantage and claimed a nine-wicket win.

If the envisaged T20I series happens, it will help both teams test their preparation for the T20 World Cup 2026, which will be played in India and Sri Lanka in February-March next year. Afghanistan produced their best performance in the ICC’s previous premier T20 event, qualifying for the semi-finals for the first time.
