Umran Malik has been one of the most looked after names in international cricket after the recently concluded IPL 2022. The Kashmir-born pacer finally made his international debut against Ireland and had a mixed start to his career. But then, while playing in India’s warm-up series against Derbyshire, Malik has shown glimpses of incredible skill and pace as he picked up two wickets while giving up just 31 runs.

Umran Malik first dismissed South African batter Leus du Plooy in the fifth over at the score of nine. But Malik’s second wicket made all the news as he bowled a speedy deliver that cleaned up Derby wicket-keeper Brooke Guest for the score of 23 runs in 25 balls. The Sunrisers pacer delivered a length ball, which was missed by Guest and sent the middle stump flying out of the ground.

Talking about Umran Malik’s debut against Ireland, the 22-year-old bowled only one over and conceded 12 runs in a rain-affected fixture. Then in the second match, Umran Malik managed to pick his first wicket but also went for 42 runs. But India’s captain for the tour, Hardik Pandya had backed his young teammate to improve after a nervous start to his career.

Pandya said, “I was trying to keep all the pressure out of my equation. I wanted to be in the present and I backed Umran Malik. He has pace and with his pace it's always going to be tough to get 18 runs. They played some amazing shots, they batted very well, credit to them and credit to our bowlers for holding their nerves.”
