The United World Wrestling announced a new format for the continental and world qualifiers events for the Paris Olympics 2024 on Monday, November 13. As per the new format, all five qualifiers will have four seeds as well as there won’t be any gold medal bouts in each of the categories. There will be four continental and one world qualifiers that will finalise the Olympic quotas for the next six months.

The four continental qualifiers will begin with the Pan-American Qualifiers in Acapulco, Mexico in February 2024. In these tournaments, the semifinal bouts will serve as the qualification bouts for the forthcoming edition of the Olympics. Hence, there won’t be any repechage, bronze and gold medal match in these events.

The finalists in each weight category will earn quotas for the marquee multi-national event. For the World Qualifiers to be held in Turkey in May 2024, winners of the semifinal bouts will directly get entry into the 2024 Olympics. Not only this, but the two winners of the bronze medal matches will compete to secure third quota in the weight categories.

While the repechage rounds will be conducted during the World Qualifiers, there won’t be any gold medal matches. Speaking of Indian wrestlers, Antim Panghal is the only wrestler so far to have booked her spot in the Paris Olympics 2024 women’s 53 kg event.
