Rohit Sharma-led India made a mockery of Australia in the first Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2022-23 as they beat the visitors by an inning and 132 runs in Nagpur. Opting to bat first, Australia got bowled out for 177 as comeback man Ravindra Jadeja picked up five wickets for India. R Ashwin also picked up three wickets to throw Australia offshore. Meanwhile, India batted really well as captain Rohit Sharma led from the front and scored a much-needed century.

Apart from Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja (70) and Axar Patel (87) also scored big runs and helped India post 400 on the board. With a 223-run lead in the first innings, India started the third innings of the match on the front foot while Australia were under the pump. The Indian spinners did not let the visitors release that pressure as R Ashwin bagged five wickets and helped India bundle Australia for 91.

Eventually, it was a massive win for the Men in Blue and Ravindra Jadeja was adjudged Player of the Match. While the all-rounder remained tight-lipped during the post-match presentation, Jadeja did not hold his horses back while interacting with former cricketers on Star Sports. As he was asked to comment about the talk around the pitch, Jadeja made a sarcastic comment saying Australian batters had already seen the rough patches on the pitch before they even boarded the flight.

"Unko flight se hi rough patches dikh rahe the (They were probably seeing the rough from the flight itself). The atmosphere they created that it would spin; it didn't spin that much. If we see, they got out more to straight balls. We also got out lbw on straight balls," Jadeja said on Star Sports.

"This is bound to happen in India because we will obviously play to our team's strength. Our fast bowlers are also good, but spinners win more matches in India and pick up wickets, so why shouldn't we go with our strength," he said.
