Although it was the start of the Bengali new year on Friday, it wasn't the result Kolkata Knight Riders were looking at on the cricket field. The Shreyas Iyer-led side lost their encounter against SunRisers Hyderabad at the Broaboune Stadium by 7 wickets. While they lost wickets in regular intervals, after being asked to bat first, for the first half of their innings, a half-century from Nitish Rana (54 from 36) and a quickfire unbeaten 49 from Andre Russell took Kolkata to a fighting total of 175/8.
Later they even got rid of Kane Williamson and Abhishek Sharma early, however, superb fifties from Rahul Tripathi (71 off 37) and Aiden Markram (62 off 36) helped the Orange Army complete their third win of the season on the trot. Hyderabad had begun their season with two successive defeats but now have a hat-trick of wins.
