India's mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy hasn't been on the cricket field since November 5, 2021. This was the Men in Blue's match against Scotland in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup and although he wasn't named in the home T20Is against New Zealand, the Kolkata Knight Riders bowler has grabbed the attention once again not through his cricketing performances but because of a video which he shared on his social media account.
The right-arm bowler from Tamil Nadu could be seen doing an Alexa Challenge video in which he asks Alexa to laugh and then lip-syncs to the answer from the virtual assistant technology device. In the video, Chakravarthy can be seen commanding Alexa to laugh to which it responds: "Of course, I can laugh" which is followed by hilarious pre-programmed laughter. However, it is the spinner's expression which adds to the comic value of the video.

Chakravarthy was recently retained by his Indian Premier League franchise ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auctions. The two-time champions who reached the finals of the 2022 season retained the West Indian duo of Andre Russell and Sunil Narine along with Venkatesh Iyer and Chakravarthy.
Overall the team which was being captained by Eoin Morgan until recently spent INR 42 crores on their retentions and will now look to build a squad for the next cycle around the group of four players. They would also be looking to include a player who can lead them in the coming seasons after they decided to let go of Morgan who was exceptional with his leadership skills but failed miserably with the bat.
In the 2021 season, Morgan scored 133 runs in 17 matches at an average of 11.08 and a strike rate of 95.68. In contrast, Chakravarthy had a great season scalping 18 wickets in 17 games at an average of 24.88 and an economy of under 7 runs an over but failed to perform as per expectation in an overall underwhelming T20 performance from Team India.
