Vikas won a bronze medal on the second day of the Asian Wrestling Championships 2023 in Astana, Kazakhstan, bringing India's total medal tally to four. The Indian wrestler vanquished Chinese counterpart Jian Tan 8-0 by technical superiority and clinched the third highest rank in the 72kg category. The match lasted for just 1 minute 41 seconds as Vikas outplayed his Chinese rival completely.

The Indian wrestler got his campaign off to a solid start by defeating Ji-yeon Lee of Korea 11-0 in the qualification round due to technical superiority. After this win, Vikas was defeated by Irani wrestler Sajjad Imentalab in the quarterfinal round of the championship. However, he then went on to qualify for the bronze medal match after Sajjad Imentalab advanced to the final in the same category.

Sumit, Rohit Dahiya and Narinder Cheema were the other Indian wrestlers in contention for bronze medals in their respective weight categories, but unfortunately all three of them had to face defeat against their opponents. While Sumit competed in the 60kg category, Rohit Dahiya and Narinder Cheema competed in the 82kg and 97kg category respectively.
