Sporting CP President Frederico Varandas has said that their striker Viktor Gyokeres won’t be available for just €70M this summer amidst the Premier League club Manchester United and Arsenal exhibiting interest in the Swedish international. As per ESPN, Man Utd are preferring the signing of France striker Bryan Mbeumo over a potential contract from Gyokeres. Amidst these developments, there are reports in Portugal that claim Gyokeres isn’t happy with Sporting CP for ignoring his €100m release clause and agreeing to release the 27-year-old for €60m plus €10m in add-ons.
On June 11, Varandas spoke to the media and said that Gyökeres will not leave for €60m plus €10 because he never made any such commitment. He also blamed Viktor's agent for worsening the matter. "I can guarantee that Viktor Gyökeres will not leave for €60m plus €10 because I never promised that. The game the agent is playing is only making the situation worse," said Frederico to the media. Gyokeres has been a part of Sporting CP since 2023 and in these two years, he has scored 68 goals for the club in 66 appearances. With the massive development happening in the Sporting CP camp, Arsenal are adamant to present a formal deal for Viktor.
Gyokeres family and closed ones want him to continue with Sporting CP
Viktor Gyokeres’ family and friends want him to stay with the Lisbon-based football club. His uncle Chris recently divulged that the family has urged him to stay with Sporting CP. In a chat with Sport.TV at the Taca de Portugal final, Gyokeres’ uncle was queried whether the Gyokeres clan felt a close link with Lisbon.
Responding to the question, he said, "Yes, very much. Yesterday at dinner, we decided that he has to stay." Gyokeres partner Ines Aguiar is also eager for the youngster to continue in Sporting CP. As per A Bola, Aguiar promised to do everything to coax him to sign a contract for the third consecutive season.
