India’s newest Test wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan has had a solid Test debut against West Indies so far. But other than his keeping, his presence on the stump mic has gone viral on the internet. Kishan, trying to emulate another Jharkhand keeper behind the stumps, was constantly heard through the stump mic as he attempted to cheer the bowlers or shift the other players around the field.

In a fan compilation video that has made the rounds of the internet, Kishan is heard asking Virat Kohli, who was stationed at slip, and Yashasvi Jaiswal who was fielding at silly point, to move a little straighter. In another incident, Kishan was visibly astonished by the amount of turn Ravichandran Ashwin managed to generate. He was also heard constantly sledging the West Indian batters in an attempt to take on the likes of Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

Talking about the first day’s play, Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers as he picked another five-wicket haul while giving away just 60 runs. Reacting to this performance, the Tamil Nadu native stated that he had to adapt in the early moments of the game before getting into his grove running through the West Indian batting lineup.
Ashwin said, “Thought it was a pretty good performance. There was a bit of moisture on the pitch earlier but it started to spin later. Saw on the TV as well that it turned more later. Had to adapt early. It was a bit dry, have to get the pace right to trouble the batsmen. International cricket is all about adapting to different conditions. With so many leagues around, we can get carried away with a few performances in these leagues but international cricket is different.”
