Days after it was confirmed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to move on from the likes of Virat Kohli, skipper Rohit Sharma and four other player, another big update has followed this. A senior BCCI official recently confirmed that the two mainstay players in Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma won’t be picked for the upcoming New Zealand T20I series.

On being asked earlier on the idea behind picking the squad for India - Sri Lanka series, the Chetan Sharma-led sacked selection committee was clear that they will pick the side keeping in mind the 2024 T20 World Cup in mind. Lately, a top BCCI official as quoted by InsideSport confirmed that both Virat and Rohit will not be considered for the New Zealand T20I series as well.

 

To add further, it was also confirmed that Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ravichandran Ashwin and Mohammed Shami will also not be considered in the T20 scheme of things of team India.

 

“Unfortunately, they won’t be picked or considered for New Zealand series. It’s not about they are being dropped or anything, we feel we need to move and prepare the team for future. Finally, it is selectors who will pronounce the decision,” the BCCI official was quoted by InsideSport.

 

India will play three-match ODI series and T20I series against New Zealand at home. The first ODI of the three-match series will be played on January 18 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad, followed by second and third ODI in Raipur and Indore, respectively.
